Mobile Payments in Openbravo
Author : Prathipan Kasinathan
Setting the scene
The Indian payments model has evolved over the last decade . While internet banking has been in vogue for high value txns and RBI has encouraged inter-branch / bank transfer through NEFT/IMPS/RTGS, small value was still cash based. Paytm was the first player in this domain and started supporting payments for mobile and other service bills by 2013. However the big push for mobile based payments was in 2014 when demonetization made the QR Code and mobile app based approach used by PayTM ubiquitous especially in metros
The next big push was in 2016 when RBI through NPCI unveiled UPI – a mobile only payment system – that is now supported by most retail and payment banks as well as by a host of other providers including Amazon, Google Pay, Phone Pe etc

Learnings
In the retail industry the mode of payment is a very important factor that confirms the potential sales. For example a customer is ready to buy some items from the store by certain payment methods, obviously the stores as well should have the same option to proceed with the sales process.
Since, after the demonetization, the Government of India encourages the Digital India concepts and in a way both Government/Private sectors opened lots of options to pay/transfer the money in online such as PayTm, Phone Pe, UPI, BHIM, Google Pay etc. to Retailers. Of course, we implemented certain payment methods for our Retail customers and running well on Production environment with stabilized manner.
